HIGH VOLTAGE GENERATING SYSTEM USING A DIODE (VOLTAGE DOUBLER)

High voltage generating system using a diode (Voltage Doubler) - Folding voltage (Voltage Doubler) serves to multiply something input voltage into a DC output voltage is greater. By using folding circuit voltage (voltage multiplier) at a relatively small transformer secondary can be obtained direct voltage output for two, three, four or more times the input voltage.

Folding circuit voltage can be made with the basic components of a diode and a capacitor, with the configuration of half-wave and full-wave. The circuit is widely used in high-voltage generator, but with a small current as the power supply picture tube. Here's an example of a series of folding 2 times the half-wave voltage with a diode.

At the time of the transformer secondary voltage of positive polarity (positive half cycle), then the diode D1 and diode D2 deliver not deliver. In ideal diode being ushered considered short circuited. Therefore C1 voltage through D1 filled up to Vm with the polarity as shown in the following figure. At the time of the next half cycle is a negative cycle, then not deliver diodes D1 and D2 diodes deliver. Therefore, the capacitor C2 charged by the transformer secondary voltage of Vm and from C1 for Vm, so that a total of 2 Vm.
 
If the given output load resistor (RL), the voltage at the end of the C2 down during positive cycle and refilled up to 2 Vm during negative cycles. Waveform output at the end of the C2 is like a half-wave rectifier output form the filter C. peak inverse voltage (PIV) for each diode is 2 Vm.
