Diode is an electronic active component with construction made of semiconductors, in electronics typically function as components of an AC voltage rectifier or change into a DC voltage. Diode consists of two electrodes (terminal) i.e. the anode (+) and cathode (-). in everyday life the diode is usually found on the adapter/rectifier.
FUNCTIONS OF DIODE |
the working principle of a diode is such a switch which is controlled directly via the electrical voltage, IE diodes will be biased forward (the conduct) when the voltage is the voltage at the anode of cathode, the diode will be biased and reverse fallback if the voltage at the anode is smaller than the cathode.
FUNCTIONS OF DIODE |
based on the material of manufacture, the diode consists of 2 types which are:
- Silicon diodes, diodesof this typehave a voltage dropin thediode, i.e.0.3Vto bethe conduct of the (ON)ifvoltagereaches0.3V.
- germanium diodes, diodes of this type have a bias voltage 0.7 V, the diode will be the conduct of the (ON) if voltage is reaching the 0.7 V.
based on its functions, consists of several types of diodes which are:
- DiodeRectifier(Diode or DiodeBridge)that serves asa currentrectifierAC toDCcurrent.
- Zener diode which serves as security for the series as well as a voltage stabilizer.
- LED diodes which serve as indicators or lights lighting.
- Photo diodes that doubles as a light sensor.
- A Schottky Diode that acts as a controller.
